Spruson & Ferguson is pleased to welcome three new practitioners to the firm’s Melbourne office: Michelle Blythe, Jarrod Lichtblau, and Willem du Preez.
Michelle and Jarrod have joined the team as Senior Associates, while Willem has joined as an Associate.
These appointments further strengthen the growth of the firm’s Melbourne office, with Mark Roberts set to commence as a Principal of the firm in July 2023.

Michelle Blythe
Michelle is an experienced patent attorney with a Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering. She has assisted clients in the healthcare space ranging from start-ups to multinational organisations.
Joining the firm’s Engineering/ICT team, Michelle has a passion for the commercial translation of technology to improve healthcare. Her expertise covers patent drafting and advice work in biomechanics, surgical systems and instruments, diagnostic devices, laboratory equipment and other healthcare specialisations.
Jarrod Lichtblau
Jarrod is a senior attorney with extensive experience in local and international trade mark practice.
In addition to being a highly skilled trade mark attorney Jarrod holds a combined Bachelor of Law and Biomedical Science degree from Melbourne’s Monash University, providing a technical background that further enriches his client offering.
Willem du Preez
Willem is an experienced patent practitioner, holding a Bachelor of Engineering majoring in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Pretoria in South Africa, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of South Africa. Willem brings diverse regional knowledge to this role, and is a great addition to Spruson & Ferguson’s Engineering & ICT team.
