Spruson & Ferguson is pleased to announce the appointment of Brendan Nugent, Catherine Winbanks, and James Beckett, who have joined the Chemical and Life Sciences team in our Brisbane and Melbourne offices.
Brendan Nugent has been appointed Of Counsel and will be based in the Brisbane office. With over 25 years’ experience as an IP professional, Brendan has extensive experience in both the biotech and chemistry sector. Brendan lectures at the Queensland University of Technology in patent law, and he is involved in a research project concerned with the economics of the patent system.
Catherine Winbanks has been appointed Senior Associate and is based in the Melbourne office. Catherine specialises in patent matters for the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, agricultural and life sciences sectors and practises in prosecuting and overseeing patent portfolios for local and international biotechnology companies and research institutes. Catherine has a strong research background in the medical field having held post-doctoral positions at the University of Melbourne and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute.
James Beckett has been appointed Patent Scientist and is based in the Brisbane office. His PhD studies focused on chemical synthesis of steroidal compounds and James is currently studying to become a registered Australian and New Zealand Patent Attorney.
