Spruson & Ferguson Australia is pleased to welcome Dr. Catherine Winbanks as a Principal in the firm’s Chemical and Life Sciences team.

Catherine has over 9 years’ experience as a Patent Attorney.

Catherine has previously worked as a Senior Associate for Spruson & Ferguson.

Catherine will be based in the firm’s growing Melbourne office.

Catherine specialises in patent matters for the biotechnology, agricultural and life sciences sectors. She practices in prosecuting and overseeing patent portfolios for local and international biotechnology companies, and works with local clients including research institutes and universities.

Catherine has also acted in several high-profile patent opposition proceedings relating to CRISPR technology and vaccines, and prior to becoming a Patent Attorney worked at the University of Washington under a world leader in the gene therapy field on cutting edge viral vector technology.

Catherine’s work has been published in a number of high impact scientific journals including Nature Communications, Science Translational Medicine and The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

Spruson & Ferguson welcomed another highly experienced practitioner to the Melbourne office, Mark Roberts, in 2023.
