The International Trademark Association (INTA), the global association of trademark owners and professionals, has released an impact study it commissioned on The Economic Contribution of Trademark-Intensive Industries in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. The study focused on the correlation between trade marks and the economic contribution of trade marks to share of exports, Gross Domestic Product, and employment.
Highlights of the study include:
- Trade mark intensive industries generate 27%-60% of exports across the five markets;
- Direct contribution of trade mark intensive industries equals between 17%-50% of Gross Domestic Product over the five markets; and
- Trade mark intensive industries employ 13%-29% of workers in the five markets.
