WIPO Gets a Rise Out of Australia

International Trade Mark Registration & PCT Patent Application Fees to Rise

The Official fees for International Trade Mark Registrations and patent applications filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) are set by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and are based on the relative strength of the local currency over the preceding three month period.

The weakening Australian dollar means that WIPO is poised to raise the costs of filing International Trade Mark Registrations and PCT Patent Applications that originate from Australia.  This increase is scheduled to commence on 1 April 2015 as a result of WIPO’s first quarterly review of fees for 2015.

Australian businesses considering filing International Trade Mark Registrations or PCT Patent Applications should take steps to action this before the expected increase in fees.
