Following the directives adopted by the PCT Assembly, IP Australia has announced updated fees for PCT applications. The updated fees will be published in the Australian Official Journal of Patents on 7 December 2017 and will take effect from 1 January 2018 as follows:

| International Filing Fee (if the application contains 30 pages or less) | $1781 | $1745 |
| International Preliminary Examination Handling Fee | $268 | $262 |
There is also an electronic filing discount of $262 for using ePCT filed in PDF format. If an ePCT is filed in XML format however, a $394 discount applies.
The reduction in the international preliminary examination handling fee now results in reduced examination costs both with and without an Australian International Search Report (ISR).
