The Australian Government’s Productivity Commission has today issued their draft report on Intellectual Property (IP) arrangements in Australia.
The report discusses the objectives and outcomes of Australia’s current IP system and proposes a number of draft recommendations, including recommendations relating to patents, trade marks, copyright and registered designs, that the ‘government could implement to unlock benefits for Australia as a whole’.1
The draft recommendations relevant to the patent system include proposals relating to the meaning of ‘inventive step’, patentable subject matter exclusions, the innovation patent system, and pharmaceutical patents.

The Productivity Commission has invited public submissions on the report until 3 June 2016.
