Overview
Shaun has over 22 years of experience in patent, trade mark and design law, covering creation, registration, and enforcement across many countries. His areas of specialisation include medical devices and methods of medical treatment, electronic control systems, optical and quantum componentry, all aspects of computer implemented inventions and nuclear technologies.
In addition to statutory rights, Shaun has significant experience in strategic IP planning and implementation; invention development (including project planning and exploitation); management of IP litigation; managing regulatory affairs and compliance (including FDA/TGA licencing of medical devices) and IP commercialisation consulting for start-ups, spin-offs and trade sales.
He has worked extensively as a patent and trade mark attorney in several Australian IP firms and prior to joining the profession, Shaun held a NASA funded graduate position at the State University of New York.
Shaun holds a Master of Science (Hons) in Neutron and X-ray Optics from the University of Melbourne under Prof. Anthony G Klein and in collaboration with Prof. Samuel Werner at the University of Missouri (Conferred 1998). Shaun had previously achieved a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Physics and Applied Mathematics from La Trobe University (Conferred 1994) during which time he served on the University’s Academic Board (Feb 1991-Nov 1993).
Shaun has been registered as both a Patent Attorney and a Trade Mark Attorney in Australia and New Zealand since 2002 when he became a fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Marks Attorneys Australia. Shaun was also the editor of the Journal of the Australian Optical Society.
Shaun is able to communicate effectively and with clarity, distilling complex ideas into easily understood concepts and thereby providing sound commercial advice to clients, enabling them to receive the most benefit from their IP.
