Experience and Technical Background

Experienced in the following areas of patent practice:

  • David has drafted and prosecuted applications in a range of fields for large world leading multinationals, start-ups as well as leading research organisations and universities. David has experience in contentious matters including litigation matters at the Federal Court and oppositions at the Patent Office.  David has been named as an IP Rising Star in 2018 and was recognised as a notable practitioner by Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars awards.
  • David has also drafted and prosecuted applications for SMEs relating to the production of nanofibers using solution precipitation methods for textile applications, clean energy technologies, medical devices, preparation of silk fibroin scaffolds having aligned fibres for wound healing and tissue engineering applications as well as nanofiber alignment for composite material applications.  He also prosecutes applications for large US multinationals which specialise in consumer goods and water purification technologies.

Primary patent practice areas by technology:

  • He specialises in drafting and prosecuting applications in mining technologies, nanoscale drug delivery systems, plasticisers, paint compositions, pharmaceuticals, clean and cement technologies, and AgTech.

Scientific/research background:

David has an undergraduate degree in Nanotechnology (Hons Class I) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and was awarded the university medal. David also has a PhD from UNSW and was awarded the Cornforth Medal for the most outstanding PhD thesis in chemistry in Australia. David has published in a number of high impact journals and won multiple prizes at International scientific conferences including Pacifichem.  He has cross-disciplinary research experience including investigating self-assembled hydrogels for cancer therapy and polymersomes for mimicking the electron transport chain of chloroplasts using bioconjugates.  This has allowed David to have experience in chemistry, biology, physics, materials science and polymer chemistry.  David also has experience with fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) to purify and isolate bioconjugated proteins using ionic-resins and size exclusion columns.
