The 20th edition of the QS World University Rankings (2024) has recently been published. The results draw on the analysis of 17.5m academic papers and the expert opinions of over 240,000 academic faculty and employers across the globe.

Spruson & Ferguson is the proud Intellectual Property (IP) partner of the majority of the Australian Universities that feature in the top 50 of this year’s QS World University Rankings. We congratulate all these Universities on their achievement.

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney has moved up 26 spots in the QS World University Rankings to equal 19th alongside its counterpart, the University of Sydney, who has also moved up 22 spots in the rankings. The two universities are now ranked equal second in Australia.  This is an extraordinary achievement, and speaks to the innovative, world leading research and education being conducted at both academic institutions.

Principal, and Chemical/Life Sciences Practice Group Leader, Dr. Mike Zammit, has a long association with UNSW Sydney, and comments: “I am continually amazed by the outstanding technologies being produced by the researchers, academics and students of UNSW.

“These technologies are crucial for addressing society’s greatest challenges, and driving societal impact. It’s a real privilege for me and my colleagues to assist the University in protecting its IP.”

Dr. Gareth Dixon, Principal – Chemical/Life Sciences has worked with the University of Sydney for more than 10 years, and comments: “The University of Sydney produces world-class research and teaching, which has the power to transform people’s lives now and well into the future.

“It is wonderful to be part of that journey, through assisting the University in protecting its patentable IP.”

The University of Queensland is one of the top public universities in Brisbane, and is ranked 43rd in the QS World University Rankings. Dr. Doug Horton, Principal – Chemical/Life Sciences has been associated with the University of Queensland for more than 25 years, first as a student and researcher and then as a patent attorney for the University for over than 15 years. Doug comments: “The University of Queensland is one of Australia’s premier teaching and research universities.

“I and my colleagues at Spruson & Ferguson are continually impressed by the technologies and innovations  produced by the University and their applications.

“It has been a privilege to work with the University to protect its intellectual property and to see the cutting edge research it is performing.”

The University of Melbourne is one of the top public universities in Victoria, and is ranked 14th in the QS World University Rankings, and Australian National University (ANU) is ranked 24th.
