Following recent amendments to the Australian Patents Act 1990 permitting Australian patent and trade marks attorneys to operate in a corporate structure, Spruson & Ferguson has become an incorporated entity and a subsidiary of IPH Limited (IPH).

On Wednesday, 19 November 2014, IPH reached a significant milestone as it became the first IP services firm to list on the Australian Stock Exchange.

Since its establishment in 1887 Spruson & Ferguson has grown to more than 300 people servicing 25 countries in Asia-Pacific with offices in Sydney, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, and supported by a representative office in Shanghai.

The new corporate structure will allow the firm to continue its expansion and provide more opportunities in offering additional and improved services to its clients. This transition also provides many of the valued staff with an equity stake in the firm, and enables the firm to retain and attract the best talent going forward.

“By showing leadership, looking beyond the horizon, investing in the future, we believe we have the ability to ensure a strong and prosperous firm for those who contribute to the future prosperity”, said David Griffith, Managing Director of IPH and Spruson & Ferguson, “it’s a long game that requires endurance, creativity and taking initiatives to ensure that what we do will benefit our clients, the firm and the business in the long term”.
