On 2 April 2018, the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China (SIPO) and Laos’ Ministry of Science and Technology (MST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Intellectual Property Cooperation between the MST and SIPO.

The MOU is an important development for patent owners looking to protect their invention patent in both China and Laos.

Under the MOU:

  1. The examination result of a China invention patent can be admitted in Laos.
  2. China and Laos will cooperate further in regard to communication of intellectual property policies, patent examination, human resource development, information exchange, automation of systems etc.

The regulation for practice under the MOU has not yet been released, however we will keep you updated on any developments on this issue. Should you have any questions, please contact us.
