The Role

An opportunity is available for an experienced registered Principal Biotech Patent Attorney to join our Chemical/Life Sciences team in Sydney, Brisbane, or Melbourne.

The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting and prosecuting patent applications, advising clients in relation to patent portfolio management, infringement, and patentability issues, as well as:

  • Collaborate and participate in strategic planning initiatives to drive the company forward.
  • Lead and manage junior attorneys, overseeing all aspects of practice management, service delivery, and financial performance.
  • Effectively delegate tasks and provide guidance to staff members to ensure optimal workflow.
  • Maintain high standards of work quality through thorough review and supervision.
  • Develop and mentor junior staff within your practice group.
  • Manage administrative functions including WIP recording, conflict of interest management, and adherence to professional standards.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this opportunity candidates will have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in Biotechnology (PhD level);
  • A minimum of six years post qualified experience as a Biotech Patent Attorney;
  • Experience in a broad range of patent attorney work including drafting of patent specifications, local and foreign patent prosecution, opposition work, and providing infringement and validity opinions;
  • Strong analytical ability;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Drive and enthusiasm; and
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
