Melanie obtained both a Bachelor of Science (Life Sciences) (Hons) and a Master of Science from the National University of Singapore. Her Master’s thesis focused on functional analysis of tumour suppressor gene DLEC1 in colorectal cancer cells. Subsequently she went to the United States to pursue her legal education, and obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University, with a focus in Intellectual Property (IP) law. During her studies in the United States, she also worked in the patent department of a medical device company on patent portfolio management and analysis of competitor products.
Experience and Technical BackgroundMelanie returned to Singapore after completing her studies in the United States. Prior to joining Spruson & Ferguson she worked in the IP departments of two law firms in Singapore, where she was involved in the prosecution of patent applications and the registration of trademarks.
