Overview

Declan has a PhD in chemistry and research experience in the fields of organic, biological and medicinal chemistry and pharmacology, with particular expertise in the design, synthesis and screening of combinatorial compound libraries.

Declan practises in all areas of chemistry, with a focus on pharmaceutical compounds and drug technologies. Prior to joining the IP profession, Declan worked as a research scientist for a Brisbane-based biotechnology company in the area of carbohydrate chemistry.

Declan’s experience as a research scientist enables him to create close working partnerships founded on mutual respect with all of his clients, while his enthusiasm for protecting clients’ commercial interests is the key to his strong service-based philosophy.

Declan is also committed to the on-going education and development of emerging attorneys; as well as presenting regular seminars and workshops for post-graduate students, he teaches as part of the Queensland University of Technology Master of Laws in IP course in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organisation.

Declan also sits on the AusBiotech Intellectual Property (IP) Expert Panel which provides advice on IP issues relevant to the life sciences sector to AusBiotech, Australia’s peak biotechnology organisation.
