Matthew has more than 14 years’ experience protecting intellectual property on two continents. Holding degrees in Law and Engineering as well as his registrations as a patent and trade marks attorney, Matthew has worked for IP firms in the UK as well as Australia. He brings to Spruson & Ferguson a rounded knowledge of every stage of protecting and enforcing IP rights, and an international perspective which ensures that his clients get the very best strategic advice.

Matthew specialises in protecting innovations in mechanical, electromechanical and electronic technologies. In particular he has focused on mining technologies, telecommunications, signal processing, security systems, and medical devices. In addition to drafting and prosecuting patent and trade mark applications, Matthew has supported his clients in the sale and licensing of their IP, as well as in contentious matters such as infringement disputes and oppositions.

Matthew brings a rare diversity of experience to his work with IP owners. He has acted on behalf of clients ranging from some of the world’s largest global electronics and communications companies, to private individuals and start-ups in regional Queensland. His track record of drafting patent specifications for cutting edge technology in telecommunications signalling equipment and RFID makes him an attorney of choice for companies at the forefront of wireless innovation.
