Dr. Simon Potter
Simon joined Spruson & Ferguson in 2007 and is an experienced patent attorney specialising in the field of biotechnology. He completed a Bachelor degree specialising in molecular biology and genetics at the University of Sydney in 2000, graduating with first class Honours and a University Medal. He was awarded a PhD for his research in the area of molecular virology at the Westmead Millennium Institute in 2004.
Simon was a recipient of a CJ Martin Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council. He undertook postdoctoral research at the Pasteur Institute in France from 2004-2006, where he gained further expertise in the fields of immunology and cellular biology.
As co-head of our Chemical/Life Sciences group in Sydney, Simon assists numerous local and international clients in various aspects of Australian and New Zealand patent practice including drafting, general prosecution, oppositions, patentability / validity opinions, freedom to operate advice and portfolio strategy/management. He has drafted, managed and successfully prosecuted sizeable patent portfolios for a number of prominent Australian biotechnology companies, and works closely with several leading Australian universities.
Simon is a Member of The Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA), The Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ) and AusBiotech.
