Martin Kwan graduated in 2002 from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a Bachelor degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, majoring in photonics. After graduation, he undertook further research in optics for about a year in Network Technology Research Centre (NTRC) within NTU. During his time with NTRC, Martin co-researched into and co-delivered a prototype of a low-cost and compact imaging device to private investors who engaged the services of NTRC.
Martin entered the patent profession by joining Spruson & Ferguson (Asia) in 2003, but left in 2007 for another specialist intellectual property firm. After qualifying as a Singapore patent attorney in 2011, he re-joined Spruson & Ferguson (Asia) in 2012. Throughout his patent career, Martin has performed and reported on prior art searches, assisted in providing patent infringement opinions, assisted clients in prosecuting patent applications in various jurisdictions with a focus before the Singapore patent office (IPOS) and provided legal opinions on the Singapore patent system.
Martin has expertise in drafting patent specifications for mechanical devices, photonic devices, semiconductors, frequency modulation circuitry and software development.
