Maik Brinkmann

Maik Brinkmann is a Principal of the firm and his practice primarily involves the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, advice in relation to patent validity and enforcement, patent strategy, including global filing strategy, and patent infringement advice, predominantly in the fields of biotechnology, biochemistry, nanotechnology, process engineering and molecular biology.

Prior to joining the firm, Maik worked several years in the patent group of one of Germany’s and Singapore’s major intellectual property law firms.

Maik graduated from the Westfälische Wilhelms-University of Münster at the Institute for Chemo and Biosensoric as a Biologist (Dipl.-Biol.). His thesis was directed to the development of processes and a sensor for the detection of live pathogens in food products. During his studies he worked also at the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund in the field of genetic engineering of microorganisms.

After his diploma he first continued his work at the Institute for Chemo and Biosensoric where he worked on the development of an amperometric biosensor for determining the concentration of nucleic acids. Maik changed later to the National University of Singapore, Department of Surgery, where he worked on “The experimental evaluation of a tissue engineered bone graft for cranial reconstruction”. He has special experience in the areas of molecular genetics, molecular biology and bioanalytical process engineering.

Maik is a Singapore Patent Attorney and a European Patent and Community Trade Mark Attorney, and is qualified but not presently registered as German Patent and Trade Mark Attorney. He is a member of the European Patent Institute. He is also a member of the Association of Singapore Patent Agents.
